CrossFit, COVID-19 and Moving Forward
Last week everyone in the CrossFit community was let down by founder Greg Glassman. His reprehensible remarks online and unprofessional interactions with other affiliate owners displayed an embarrassing lack of leadership and compassion. His words and actions are the antithesis of our values and our desire to build a safe and inclusive community. The CrossFit community deserves better. Like many other affiliates and athletes, we believe CrossFit is more than Greg Glassman and we aren’t going to let it crash and burn without a fight.
There are too many good people behind the CrossFit brand for us to simply cut and run. Sure, we could drop our affiliate, and coach CrossFit without calling it CrossFit, but how does that solve anything? We are going to use our seat at the table of Affiliation to say we believe in CrossFit, but we have lost faith in Greg Glassman. Let’s be clear, bailing on CrossFit won’t hurt Greg Glassman. It will hurt HUNDREDS of employees and staff members who are being dragged down with him and it will hurt the community at large. We owe it to the men and women of the CrossFit Training Seminar Staff to fight for CrossFit. We owe it to the employees of CrossFit to fight. We owe it to every CrossFit Affiliate that remains, or that continues on under a different name that has benefited from CrossFit’s legislative lobbying to fight. We owe it to the people whose lives could be saved through the work of CrossFit Health to fight.
We are giving Greg Glassman and CrossFit HQ a chance to rectify this situation by demonstrating meaningful change within the organization. Short of that, we cannot continue to affiliate ourselves with CrossFit.
Moving forward, we are excited to be able to open our doors on Friday. COVID-19 is still a reality for our area and we will adhere to all safety protocols put in place by the county. We look forward to being able to train people again and to continue our mission of helping people live their best lives.
